Exciting Times for Ri-Industries!

by Ri Industries

It’s exciting times for us at Ri-Industries! Our business continues to grow through the hard work and dedication of our staff, our commitment to long-term relationships with our partners, and of course, loyalty and support from our customers. We are pleased to share the following news with you.

Congratulations to Ivan Sayers for his recent promotion to Managing Director. Ivan began his journey with Ri-Industries in 2002 as Production Manager and became General Manager in 2012. We are excited for Ivan to take the helm as Managing Director and look forward to following his lead as we bring additional value to our community.

Ri-Industries continues to work on South Australian infrastructure projects, including the Darlington Upgrade, along with our partner Reinforced Earth. Not only does this work improve South Australian infrastructure, but it keeps South Australians employed right here in SA. Our factories will be kept busy over the next 12 months.

Ri-Industries has worked closely with our partner Xylem Water Solutions on an exciting development: releasing a new product into our production of an elliptical-shaped station. This pump station comes from a long-term project to manufacture an alternative shaped-station that ensures logistics are easier, but still provides a capacity equivalent to a 3800 internal diameter.

South Australian customers are benefitting from our continued relationship with FujiClean.  We provide a lightweight alternative waste water treatment system that adds to our already extensive range of environmentally-focussed products. Ivan recently visited the FujiClean headquarters in Japan to further develop our relationship.

South Australia is introducing new certifications required for waste water treatment systems and we are busy getting ready for them. In fact, we are already working with key partners on the certification process for Ri-Treat and Ri-Cycle.

We would like to thank all of our customers and contacts for your continued support. If you’d like more information on any of these updates, or our products, please call us on 8444 8100.

Ri-Industries Now Distributes FujiClean Wastewater Treatment Systems

by Ri Industries

In order to provide the best options for each of our customers, Ri-Industries is pleased to announce we are now a South Australian distributor of FujiClean wastewater treatment systems. Fibreglass domestic wastewater treatment systems from FujiClean offer an affordable, reliable option for homeowners needing a smaller wastewater treatment system, or where site access is difficult.

Just like our proven Ri-Treat system, the FujiClean CE-1500EX domestic model efficiently converts household wastewater from your kitchen, bathroom and laundry into safe, clean water for re-use around your garden.

FujiClean wastewater treatment system

These fibreglass tanks are a lightweight alternative to our Ri-Treat concrete tanks, and offer the following advantages:

  • Proven design and high performance
  • Simple maintenance and high energy efficiency
  • An environmentally friendly design, resulting in lower operational cost
  • Ease of installation in locations where access is difficult or limited
  • A warranty of 15 years for tanks and 2 years for electrical components.

Why do we feel so strongly about wastewater treatment? Water is a limited resource that is in constant recirculation over time. The water we use today will, eventually, make its way back into our lives tomorrow. Water conservation is vital to ensure our planet has the resources it needs in the years to come.

More information on the FujiClean wastewater system can be found on our website.

The Ri-Cycle Offers Many Benefits to Commercial Buildings

by Ri Industries

Commercial buildings have a challenge that the residential home owner need not worry about. A substantial amount of waste water is produced. Therefore, we rely upon building owners to make good choices for our environment and recycle as much water as possible. For buildings in non-sewered areas, the Ri-Cycle Commercial Waste Water Treatment System is an ideal solution.

The Ri-Cycle is an aerobic system and one of the most effective methods in Australia for dealing with sewage. It offers building owners and occupants the chance to reclaim their wastewater by recycling and reusing water from their building or sites.

A sample of the types of organisations that can benefit from the Ri-Cycle are:

  • Hotels and motels
  • Function centres
  • Caravan parks
  • Factories and other industrial buildings
  • Mining camps
  • Schools
  • Wineries

Why should your business choose the Ri-Cycle? First and foremost, it’s manufactured by Ri-Industries and we are leaders in pre-cast concrete products that enhance the environment. The Ri-Cycle has a unique design that offers many benefits, including:

  • Flexible design so they can be tailored to suit your exact requirements
  • The high quality bio filter medium enhances the purity of the recycled water
  • All irrigation pumps are stainless steel, submersible, quiet, reliable and inexpensive to operate.  And because of the high quality of effluent being passed through the system the normal manufacturer’s warranty of 12 months is extended to 3 years
  • A German-manufactured side channel Air Pump offers a reliable and efficient aeration
  • Three sizes of Ri-Cycle tanks offer maximum flexibility for use in many buildings and sites
  • Child-proof, vandal-proof and trafficable lids give you additional peace of mind
  • A manufacturers’ warranty on tank construction – longer than comparable products.

Teach Kids About Waste Water with this Recipe for Poo

by Ri Industries

The environment is one of the greatest gifts we pass on to the next generation. It is important that we teach them to treat it well, respect it, and nurture it so it can be passed on to further generations. Ri Industries is always on the lookout for ways to help teach children about caring for the environment; especially conserving water.

We came across a video made by SA Water which included a recipe for poo. You may be wondering why anyone would possibly need a recipe since we’ve all been making poo since we were born. We wondered too and found out that SA Water uses the poo recipe to get kids interested in talking about waste water. We’d like to share the recipe with you, along with some talking points, so you can begin a dialogue with the kids in your life.

Poo Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Baked Beans
  • Corn
  • Banana
  • Chocolate Muffins

Place all ingredients in a bowl. This is the meal going into the stomach. Add some saliva (water) and use a potato masher to mash up the mixture. Place in a plastic bag. Cut a small hole in the bottom of the bag and squeeze.

Now that the kids are chuckling and paying attention, lay some education on them. Here are some important facts they should know:

  • Feces and urine make up just a very small part of wastewater and is a small part of what goes down into the sewers.
  • .1% of materials that wind up in wastewater treatment plants are solid. The rest is water! We use a lot of water to wash waste away.
  • It is imperative that we recover that water.
  • The water must be cleaned up before it is returned to the environment.

A bit of fun. A bit of learning. A great way to get the conversation started and create awareness. While you’re at, why not give us a call and learn about our residential and commercial products to see how you can help preserve our environment.

Safe Cleaning Products for Waste Water Treatment System

by Ri Industries

An excellent way to conserve water is by reclaiming waste water to recycle and reuse it around the home. The Ri-Treat Waste Water Treatment system is designed and manufactured in South Australia and guaranteed to be of superior quality and is a great choice for your home.

Once installed, you want to be sure to follow the guidelines for proper use. One important consideration is the choice of cleaning products you use in your home as they can have an effect on the waste water treatment system.

The following are suitable cleaners:

  • Vinegar
  •  Bicarbonate of soda
  •  Soap – in the form of washing powder, dishwashing liquid and ordinary body soap
  •  Biodegradable cleaning liquids

Disinfectants should be used sparingly. Bleach, antibacterial solutions or toilet cleaners should NEVER be used.  Should any form of bleach enter the system this will cause the system to work inefficiently. The bleach will kill off all the ‘good bacteria’ and can create an odour from the system. In addition, doing 2 or more loads of washing in a 24 hour period can mean the system will not operate effectively. It is recommended that clothing be washed over a period of time to ensure effective operation of the system.

Ri-Industries is proud to deliver quality products which help residents of South Australia with the important task of conserving water. Please call us, at 08 8444 8100, to learn more about our products.

Ri-Treat Waste Water System Helps Save Drinking Water

by Ri Industries
Ri-Treat – Waste Water Treatment System

Ri-Treat – Waste Water Treatment System

Think about how much water you use each day. Chances are, much of the water you use in the house and garden is potable (drinkable), but do we use it in that way? The answer is simply, no. We are wasting our drinking water.

You may have read articles or experienced water shortages. You may make an effort to take shorter showers or turn off the water while brushing your teeth. Thank you for that. Every effort helps. To make an even larger impact, how about reusing waste water?

By using waste water as a resource rather than a waste product you can:

  • reduce water bills
  • use fewer water resources
  • irrigate the garden during drought or water restrictions
  • cut down the amount of pollution going into waterways
  • help save money on new infrastructure for water supplies and wastewater treatment
  • decrease demand on infrastructure for sewage transport, treatment and disposal, allowing it to work better and last longer.

The Ri-Treat Waste Water Treatment System separates and digests solid wastes and uses natural processes to purify waste water. This odourless, clean, disinfected water is then recycled through garden sprinklers. To learn how this system works, please follow this link to the Ri Industries website or call us at 08 8444 8100.

Why do I need to service my aerobic waste water treatment system?

by Ri Industries

Routine scheduled maintenance is the one thing you need to do to ensure your Ri-Treat Waste water treatment system operates properly.  Aerobic treatment systems are on-site sewage treatment systems that use forced air to treat wastewater and surface application, or drip irrigation, to disperse the treated wastewater. They may also be used to replace subsurface systems that are failing due to high groundwater and/or poor soil.

Servicing

Once the unit has been installed it is the owners/operators responsibility of on-site secondary treatment systems (STS) to ensure the unit is serviced by an accredited service company and to hold a current maintenance and/or service contract for their system. Owners/operators shall ensure that all maintenance and servicing is undertaken by an appropriately trained person. This person must have completed a training course as specified by SA Health.  Servicing must be undertaken in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the conditions of the relevant authority’s approval (eg. Council/SA Health). Service providers must forward a copy of each service record to the relevant authority and notify that authority if they cease to service the system.

General Maintenance Guidelines

A system that is poorly maintained will not produce properly treated effluent; therefore Ri –Industries recommends owner/operators hire a maintenance service with the experience and knowledge of your system.

You will have best success for a properly working system if you follow these general guidelines:

  •  Aerobic systems are for household wastewater, so be sure to avoid using any form of bleach, antibacterial solutions or toilet cleaners, as these will kill off all of the good bacteria and create an odour in your system.
  • Be diligent in disinfecting your system to reduce the risk of pathogens in the effluent. Disinfection is the primary mechanism for destroying pathogen organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoan cysts.  Disinfection also prevents the spread of waterborne diseases to downstream users and the environment. The most commonly used disinfectant is chlorine. Other disinfection methods include ultraviolet (UV) radiation and ozonation.
  • Check the surface application area; your vegetative cover should not be ignored during maintenance inspections.
  • Clean the equalisation tank every one or two years.  Routine tank inspections during your scheduled maintenance service will help you avoid sludge overflow.
  • Don’t ignore your system alarm.  Most systems are equipped with an alarm to alert you of a system failure.  Inspect the system immediately or call a professional if you are not comfortable managing the issue yourself.

If you have questions about the maintenance of your aerobic treatment system, please do not hesitate to contact us with questions. We are proud to serve the Adelaide and South Australia area with all of your waste water treatment needs.
